King Oyo Laid to Rest at Karambi Royal Tombs

Omukama Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV has been laid to rest at the Karambi Royal Tombs in Fort Portal following ceremonies attended by mourners and dignitaries.

King Oyo became internationally known after ascending the Tooro throne as a child in 1995. During his reign, he played a ceremonial and cultural role while also supporting health and development causes.

His death prompted mourning across Tooro and renewed public attention on the kingdom’s succession process. Edward Rukidi Kijanangoma assumed the throne after the royal clan selected him as successor, according to reports from the burial ceremonies.

Religious and cultural leaders appealed for unity as the kingdom entered a new chapter. The Tooro monarchy remains an important cultural institution even though Uganda’s traditional leaders do not exercise formal political authority.
